Strange phone conversation
Jul. 16th, 2005 08:51 pmSo, today my phone rang, and the caller ID said it was a friend of mine that I don't talk to much -- just someone I met while she was working at a coffee shop, who I'll sometimes hang out with at her work. We'll call her V. So, I picked up the phone:
[V]: Rachel?
[R]: Yes?
[V]: No, you're not Rachel. Put Rachel on the line.
[R]: Um, it's me. And this is V, right?
[V]: What are you talking about? Your voice is totally different. Did Rachel put you up to this?
[R]: No, _I'm_ Rachel.
[V]: No you're not.
[R]: V, stop screwing with my head, what is it you want?
[V]: (hesitantly) ...I wanna go to the Fire Arts Festival!
[R]: Um, well, okay....
[V]: Oh shit! You're the wrong Rachel. I'm sorry. Hey! How's it going?
[R]: Oh! All right, I guess...
It was so surreal the way it seemed that communication had completely broken down. Like I'd wandered into an alternate dimension where I'd been replaced by somebody else.
