Jul. 21st, 2005 10:06 amI work at a fairly large company, and the nature of my job is such that I know and work with a lot of people from different departments across the company. Everyone here seems genuinely friendly, and as I grab a bagel I'm greeted by a half a dozen people. Some of them say hi, some of them make small talk. Some simply smile at me, and I smile back. I don't remember their names, but they seem to remember mine.
There's some sort of horrible loneliness in greeting so many people in a single morning, and so I've retreated back to my desk. At least here, when someone talks to me, it isn't out of sheer politeness.
