I forgot how much I missed the harsh kiss of hot southwestern air. As we
were flying into Phoenix I kept thinking how much it all looked like
some distant alien landscape, like Mars or Io or Arrakis. I looked for
wormsign, but I didn't see anything - oh well, better luck next time I
suppose.

I think I want to visit Arizona or New Mexico again, sometime.
Everything here is so beautiful and barren.

Visiting my mom has gone fairly well so far. Mostly I've been hanging out with my sister Amy and her friend, who are both visiting as well. I've also had some good bonding time with my kid sister Linda. She started asking me a lot of questions about what "gay" meant, and so we had a good talk about that.

My dad is going to be a day late due to car problems. My mom got in this evening from a business trip. We're both being kind of polite to each other but things still seem a bit edgy. Maybe I'm just being hypersensitive though.

My brother Rob is basically a different person since puberty. But he seems to be a very nice person now, so I'm glad to get to know him again.

The family dog is old and grey, but still playful in a nuzzling kind of way.

Apparently there's nothing within walking distance except a gas station. I'd forgotten how bad this part of the country could be about that.

Bedtime now. I'm awfully exhausted for someone who didn't do anything today.
