Vaya con Dios, Chema
Nov. 10th, 2003 09:23 amChema Celorio, my former boss at Ximian, died skydiving in Mexico.
He was my boss for the second year there, 2001, under the Ximian Setup Tools project. Under his guidance I moved far higher within the GNOME project than I had been. He was fair and funny, although sometimes annoying in that way good managers have to be.
Later, when I went on to KU and looked for something to do (and some spare cash, as students do), he let me keep working as a consultant.
Eventually, he had to force a decision, on my part, on my own usefulness to the company, and based on that I left the company. Something which I greatly regret, but also greatly respect Chema for.
I remember one time he had me call him at the Mexico office, even though I had never made an international phone call, and even though my spanish was not nearly as good as I wanted to pretend it was. I suspect it was just an honest oversight though.
May your spirit soar, Chema.
